The report is produced by FT Strategies in partnership with Qarib, a regional programme funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and implemented by the French Agency for Media Development (CFI).

Artificial intelligence is already reshaping journalism: from how content is produced to how audiences are reached and monetised. For independent media in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Palestine, the challenge is not in understanding AI’s potential, but applying it in environments shaped by limited resources, infrastructure constraints and complex audience needs.

This research seeks to bridge that fundamental gap, offering guidance to resource-constrained newsrooms as they navigate real-world implementation. The report identifies where AI is delivering value for the media industry and outlines how publishers can leverage AI effectively and sustainably, especially within organisations facing budgetary and technical limitations.
